(June 26, 2017) – AQPER has produced a 30-pages fact sheet that provides an overview on the Quebec solar sector, presents a clear vision for the future of the solar market and sets AQPER’s recommendations to optimize the solar sector development in Quebec.
One of the targets of Quebec’s Energy Policy is to reduce by 40% the amount of petroleum products consumed. It is therefore necessary to undertake an in-depth energy transition in order to reach this target by 2030. Various ways are available to decarbonise our economy and Quebec has significant assets with a huge renewable energy potential.
Solar energy, as a thermal or electrical energy source, is a sector that must be included in the various solutions range in order to attain the objectives and targets of the Energy Policy. This is a mature technology, which is becoming increasingly less expensive, that the Hydro-Québec’s CEO, Mr. Éric Martel, says the Crown corporation is studying the possibility of building a 100 MW solar plant in 2020-2021. The solar energy has many possible uses (electricity generation, heating, industrial power generation, transport). Solar systems are also characterized by quick implementation and low maintenance costs.
